I was asked to do the devotional at Helen and Marion's basketball game tonight. They plan in our church Upward basketball league. To prepare, I did a writeup. I did not read it word for word. But, I wanted to share it. Christy also recorded my presentation. The first few seconds were missed due to Simon. :)
Good evening, for those of you that do not know me, my name is Billy Hall. Rick asked me to do the devotion tonight to share a bit of testimony about something that happened recently.
A couple of weeks ago, I had an accident on my 4-wheeler. I was pinned under it for 3 hours in a shallow creek face down in a few inches of water. I could only breathe through my mouth.
At that moment, I went through the usual thoughts and feelings. Disbelief that I could not get out of it. Thoughts that this might be the end. I tried yelling at Siri several times. Quickly my thoughts went toward Jesus. I ended up having the longest prayer session I have ever had.
God taught me a lot. I prayed and prayed. God told me to just wait. I prayed that God would get my wife’s attention and she would realize something was wrong. I had peace come over me that I would either be with Jesus or my family at the end of the day.
In the end, my family found me. They got the 4-wheeler off of me. I walked home with just some soreness.
God saved me that day. He gave me what I needed. There was nothing that I could do. We often think we can do anything we put our mind to…without help or God.
We cannot. We must rely on him. Nothing we do will save us.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
